Silver Hound is dedicated to matching homes in the UK with Sighthounds in rescue in Ireland. These hounds are generally Greyhounds; and Lurchers of a vast arrange of crosses including Saluki and Whippet types; all of whom have found themselves unwanted or abandoned, and with no hope of a home in Ireland.
We are not a traditional "rescue", we do not have a list of dogs in our care, and are not a registered charity but do have a strict not-for-profit approach. Instead we work with homes looking for a hound, matching them with a very needy hound waiting in one of the rescues we work with in Ireland.

Silver Hound is the "little sister" of Silver Peacock, and has evolved out of our love for hounds, commitment to fostering, and friendships we have made with those working in greyhound and Lurcher rescue in Ireland and the UK.
We work with the Irish rescues (Galway SPCA, Halfway There Hounds and occasionally others) to bring specific hounds to the UK and then care for them in our own homes until they are ready for adoption with their new family.
We specialise in cat and "small furries" friendly hounds, we have cats of our own, and know how important making the right match can be - we have lots of practical experience of introducing cats and hounds and are always happy to help with advice and support.

Silver Hound carries out home visits to help us in matching the right hound to your home, we may also ask for references from an independent person like a vet. We require all potential adopters to sign an adoption agreement agreeing to certain conditions - this is to protect both the hound and you. There is also an adoption fee which goes some (but not all) of the way to cover medical costs like neutering, vaccinations, etc. and transportation.
We prefer a more tailored and personalised approach - for us homing a hound is a personal business, both the humans and hounds involved are individuals and should be treated as such... It takes a lot of time, energy and commitment for all parties involved to make the right match, but it is incredibly rewarding!
We continue to support the family of any hound we place in a home for as long as needed, and many of our adopters remain friends - we love to know how the hounds are doing in their new lives and believe strongly that our responsibility to the hound and their family doesn't end at adoption.
